Supporting Small Businesses

In one week, over 91% of Americans shop at small businesses or local stores. Many people prefer supporting small businesses to give back to their community and be more sustainable. At getGFTD, we not only are a small woman-owned business, but we also want to support and uplift other small businesses.

Here our some suggestions for local Baltimore businesses for you to support:

Food:

-Roland Park Bagels

Located on Cold Spring Lane, Roland Park procures fresh, delicious bagels. Stop by to grab your breakfast sandwich and morning coffee.

-PaperMoon Diner

A spectacular sight, this eclectic diner is full of colorful trinkets and toys. With a fully decorated ceiling, there’s so much to look at, and they serve a mean brunch, too.

-Diasporan Soul

This Jamaican and American fusion restaurant offers incredible soul food. They have a traditional menu, with classic dishes such as jerk chicken, and vegetarian menu with alternative options.

Entertainment

-Urban Reads

Urban Reads is a Black-owned, community-focused bookstore. The owner Tia Hamilton, founded it in 2019, aiming to promote literacy and uplift the Black community. The store covers a wide range of genres, and sells other products such as haircare and handmade soap.

-The Senator Theatre

Located on York Road, this historic theatre will take you back in time with its arts deco style. It was established in 1939, and maintains the same main auditorium, complete with velvet curtains and a 40 foot screen.

-Greedyreads

If you’re heading to RHOUSE, check out this independent bookstore across the street. From children’s books to literary fiction, you’re bound to find the perfect book amongst their selection.

Sending a GFT to your local florist is a great way to show your gratitude for their lovely product. If you have a favorite bakery or coffeshop, you can show your appreciation and make their day by sending them a GFT!

We are also trying to work with small businesses to help them set up a donation system. A local hardware store can have their lumber, nails, and other materials being sourced for local businesses. We encourage small stores to set up a donation list not only to give back to the community but also because people want to shop at places on a mission. By supporting small businesses, you are also supporting the local economy.
